Situated on the tri-junction of India, China and Bhutan, Doklam suddenly became a matter of national security. The standoff began on 16th June between India and China in Doklam plateau in Bhutan when India along with Bhutan opposed. China on the other hand accused India of “trespassing”and violating 1890 convention which was signed between China and Britain.
Two months into withdrawal of Doklam standoff which lasted up to 70 days; many wonder why both the countries have not yet found any permanent solution to it. As China one month after withdrawal of standoff,   began construction of an existing track 10km from north and east of the conflict area, though no signs of permanent construction could be found.

Many defence and foreign strategy experts argue that China would never want this issue to get a permanent solution, as doing so would help India use its Army troops on borders adjoining Pakistan. Speaking to Catch news in an interview former foreign secretary Kanwal Sibal said,  “Sorting out this particular issue with India would mean releasing thousands of Indian Army troops towards western border with Pakistan, this is part of their overall strategy.” He argued that India’s diplomatic win over China in Doklam issue is a bitter thought for Pakistan, as China is seen as an aid for Pakistan against India.
Apart from India’s obligation to help Bhutan against road construction of People’s Liberation Army, India had security threats as the road would allow China to be able to reach up to India’s doorstep which is famously known as chicken’s neck (Siliguri Corridor) with its army which would isolate North East region from mainland. China roaring through their media on Doklam standoff and their warmongering cries were proved wrong when India didn’t respond to it and resorted to a diplomatic approach.
According to Financial Express the decision taken by both countries is a diplomatic success of India’s diplomacy. South East Asian countries like Vietnam and Philippines were able to raise their hopes as this proved that China is avertable.
Ahead of BRICS summit Xi Jinping, the President of China feared the boycott of India and that it would affect his reputation worldwide and the withdrawal was justified by weather conditions and other factors wrote Christophe Jaffrelot in Indian Express. China was surprised and realised its losing when Japan openly backed India on Doklam issue. Having China attempting to claim its islands Japan has a few reasons to back India. “After the recent provocative actions, the entire international community will have to send a message to China”, Japan’s Defence Minister had then said to India Today.

On the other hand, Army Chief General of India has warned China about India’s strength with its Defence forces and suggested India to be ready to counter Doklam-like situation alongside India-China border.
